Fisher & Paykel 10kg washing machine review

The Fisher & Paykel WashSmart™ (WA1068G1) 10kg large capacity top load washing machine is great for large families.

  • water sensing technology
  • auto lint removal
  • auto out of balance correction

Height: 1090 mm
Width: 685 mm
Depth: 700 mm
Lid Open: 1470 mm

With many convenient features including: water sensing technology that senses how much water is required for each wash, no more guess work. Auto lint removal, no more manually removing the lint when you remember to do it! Automatic out of balance correction, if a wash load becomes out of balance during a wash, it automatically corrects this imbalance so you don’t have to rearrange the wet clothes/sheets.

Easy to use buttons and with preselected options makes putting a load of washing less of a chore and the large size means less loads to do. With a wide wash tub washing big bulky items like sheets, towels or doonas is a lot easier.

The WashSmart washing machine has an agitator in the middle of the spin tub which rotates (agitates) back and forth during the wash. It offers 16 wash programs, 5 rinse options and 5 manual water levels.

Having used a smaller front load washing machine prior, I really like this larger top load washing machine because I can add a few extra pieces of clothing after the water has been filled and the clothes are soaking before the wash cycle begins and I can fit more things in.

The water sensing technology is a great feature, all I have to do is put the clothes in, add detergant and press a button and the machine takes care of the rest. I don’t need to select/guess how much water is needed for each wash but I also have the option to select the water level whenever I want to. Automatic lint removal is another plus because who remembers to clean the lint collected from the machine anyway!?, though not sure how it manages to remove the lint automatically! This means less work for me and my clothes come out clean and nearly dry, so after a year of use I am happy with this purchase.

There are couple of issues with this machine, even though there are different water temperatures to choose from, clothes are washed in cold water even if hot water is selected except if you use the allegy cycle.

The other issue, is that once the cycle has started and you pause the machine to add a few extra pieces or just to check, the cycle starts from the beginning again which is a bit annoying. (eg. 35min left of the cycle/wash, if you open the lid it will start at 40mins if that is the start of the cycle time).

Likes:

  • Senses the amount of water required
  • Automatic lint removal
  • Quick option
  • Large capacity
  • Energy efficient
  • Preset wash selections
  • Soft closing lid
  • Auto correction when a load of washing becomes out of balance

Dislikes:

  • Starts the cycle again if machine is paused
  • Washes in cold water only except in allegy cycle
  • Clothes can get caught on the bottom of the agitator when taking clothes out of machine

Update:

After 5 years of use one of the fin from the agitator broke and some months after that water started leaking out of the bottom of the machine.
